John Ralston Saul

John Ralston Saul is a prominent social thinker and internationally acclaimed essayist and novelist. He is the only Canadian listed in the influential Utne Reader's list of one hundred leading thinkers and visionaries.

Mr. Saul's best selling trilogy: Voltaire's Bastards: The Dictatorship of Reason in the West; The Doubter's Companion: A Dictionary of Aggressive Common Sense and The Unconscious Civilization has had a growing impact on political thought in many countries. The Unconscious Civilization, grew out of the 1995 Massey Lectures and won several awards including the 1996 Governor General's Literacy Award for Non-Fiction.

He is married to Her Excellency Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada.

His Excellency is the Patron of the Canadian Centre of International PEN, the Dominion Institute and of the Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network. He also chairs the Advisory Board of the LaFontaine-Baldwin Symposium.

His latest book, On Equilibrium, is a Viking hardcover published by Penguin Books Canada Limited.
