Our beliefs guide our work and the nature of the dialogue on Philia. An important component of dialogue is sharing one's assumptions and values, so in the spirit of dialogue, we share ours with you.
We believe:
- Citizenship involves three fundamental components: rights, responsibilities and access.
- To be a caring citizen requires us to be in relationship with each other. Relationships provide opportunities for contribution, which is essential to full participation as citizens.
- Our communities and neighbourhoods are inherently resilient and hospitable.
- People who have been labeled, isolated or marginalized are an untapped resource in our society.
- Focusing on labels overshadows a person's gifts, skills and talents. We cannot afford to waste or ignore anyone's talents or expertise.
- Like any other citizens, people who have been labeled, isolated or marginalized have both the capacity and the responsibility to exercise their citizenship.
- Enabling the presence, participation and contribution of all citizens benefits not only those individuals but our neighbourhoods, communities, and society as a whole.
